It’s subtitled “Life in Ruins,” but the vistas in the latest The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

trailer look more like postcards from an impressionist painter.

Nintendo’s action-adventure for Wii U and forthcoming Nintendo Switch console is due sometime next year. But most of the footage we’ve seen to date centers on an area generally referred to as “the plateau” and focuses on some of the activities longstanding series protagonist Link might get up to. Cooking, fighting, chopping down trees, surfing on his shield and climbing pretty much everything

.

The new trailer, which debuted during the pre-show for The Game Awards

at the Microsoft

Theater in Los Angeles on Dec. 1, takes the camera for a tour of other places. Like seasonal forests, long stony bridges near cliffside perimeters, strange dragon-headed outposts at dusk and sleepy-looking hamlets with elaborate terraced gardens. There’s also a bit of Link looking resolute as enemies threaten and a few faceless glimpses (well, presumptively) of the eponymous Zelda.
